Active Pursuits

Hate to miss a workout? We have just the activities for you. Experience the Breakwater Walk, a mile-long rocky jetty to the narrowest tip (or hook) of Provincetown. Continue on to the Long Pointhouse. Or, climb to the top of the 252-foot-high Pilgrim Monument, where the Mayflower Pilgrims first arrived in the New World before sailing on to Plymouth. Another idea: Go whale-watching from MacMillan Pier between mid-May and mid-October to get up close and personal with these amazing sea creatures.

The Water’s Grand

Looking for a place to dip your toes in the surf? Provincetown’s beaches are among the most coveted on the East Coast, with many along the Cape Cod National Seashore, including calm and expansive Herring Cove Beach (boasting dramatic sunsets!) and surf-tastic Race Point Beach. Or, take a quiet walk along Provincetown Harbor or bike along the National Seashore bike trails for a fulfilling glimpse of the water.

Arts & Culture Abound

For over a century, Provincetown has welcomed and nurtured artists, poets, writers, playwrights, and more to its community. Get out there and explore everything from art schools to community theatres, to an extensive array of galleries and museums. Don’t miss a visit to the Provincetown Art Association and Museum (PAAM) to admire thousands of pieces from artists who have lived or worked in the area. For a quick tour of some of the town’s free outdoor art, take a casual stroll through the Bob Gasoi Memorial Art Alley, a lively installation tucked away off busy Commercial Street.

Indulge in the Hustle and Bustle

Grab a seat in front of Provincetown’s Town Hall, where every day feels like a holiday. Walk along popular Commercial Street or Provincetown Harbor and soak in all the action while admiring the diverse mix of people and personalities on full display. PTown’s restaurant and nightlife scene are a big draw. Ellery Hotel Provincetown is steps away from our favorite restaurants such as Helltown Kitchen, Ross' Grill, Freeman's and The Mews. The legendary Tea Dance at The Boatslip, A-House, Crown and Anchor and The Porch Bar are also a short stroll along Commercial Street.

One of our favorites is the Helltown Kitchen, featuring Willy Garcia’s eclectic fusion of flavors. The Canteen is another go-to haunt with an expansive patio, a casual beachy vibe, and scenic water views. When it comes to cocktails, we say, “Cheers!” at Local 186 with an El Diablo Margarita or a Bloody Mary at the iconic Lobster Pot restaurant. And you can’t forget about tea time. First-timers to Provincetown can’t miss the legendary Tea Dance at The Boatslip, Provincetown’s biggest outdoor LGBTQ-friendly dance party for nearly 50 years.
